REALITY BYTES

"i love you as my brother..."

Two years ago I was in class 10. I am good at my studies and at cricket. And that was the reason why everyone loved me in school as well as at home. There were many girls in my school, but there was this one girl in my class called Soma. She was quite good at studies, let's say she was one mark behind me, and there was always a healthy competition going on between us. But she had an advantage over me and that was that she was a girl and very beautiful, too. If you asked me to give an example of brains and beauty together, then I would definitely take her name.

Every guy in the class was in love with Soma in more ways than one, but nobody could dare to express it to her because she was so good at studies. So, all the guys of my class decided to make me the bali ka bakra. I was selected to propose to her. Soma had a very stern image, so proposing to her was a tough thing to do, but I always loved to do things which are impossible for others. I always hated failure, so I had to make it good in one go or I would be no more than a halal ka bakra.

For this, I prepared myself mentally as well as physically and for some days I said namaste to my studies and started preparing for Operation Soma. One day, when I was sitting alone, an idea came to my mind. So the next day, when the last period was over, I requested Soma to remain in class. After everyone left the classroom I went to her and said, "Soma, you're my good friend, I never thought of you as my rival, you're my best friend. I respect you a lot... blah, blah, blah." Then I started applying my idea-I told her a fake story-I said, "Soma, I am all alone, my parents had adopted me from an orphanage, but three years later they got their own child so they stopped caring for me. Nobody loves me at home. I am no more than a useless thing for them, they (my parents) don't care for me, they hate me." To make it more real I started crying (thanks to the glycerin which I had brought from home). Guys, you won't believe it, but she believed this fake story and also started weeping. It was happening as planned. But then, all of a sudden, she started saying, "How could you say nobody loves you and cares about you? There are so many people around you who love you and care for you." I said, "Yeah, there are many people, but you are not one of them." She replied, "I, too, love you and care for you." After hearing these lines I jumped with joy. The next moment she said, "I love you as my brother, as I don't have a brother! I am also all alone, your face resembles that of my dead brother, who died soon after birth. (Maybe she had seen Dil.)

Guys, you won't believe it, but after saying all this she burst out laughing and said, "You fool! Don't act too smart, I know everything about you guys. It will be much better if you concentrate on your studies and other things instead of proposing to me. Well, your story was nice and you acted well too, but mister, don't forget I am your rival and my name is Soma and I am better than you." And with a smile and a flourish she left the classroom and I was standing there with failure, a broken heart and a smile on my face. She is really impossible now because whenever she looks at me she gives me a smile and I remember that unlucky day of my life, when everybody laughed at me. And now every time
I see her, I start singing this song,
"Nehle pe dehla ho gya, ki karye, ki karye."
